Lower Key Stage 2

Learning in Year 3

Fascinating Fossils

Year 3 on: Learning in Year 3

This half term, Year 3 have been learning about Mary Anning through the story 'Stone Girl Bone Girl'. The children enjoyed learning about her life and wrote a biography about her. They went on to write newspaper reports about the important discoveries she made.

This linked well with our Science learning. As children were learning about rocks and fossils, they were got 'hands on' and made their own fossil imprints, using everyday items such as plasticine and dog biscuits!

We wrote newspaper reports about the invasion of Lindisfarne and worked in groups using the iPads to turn them into video news bulletins!

We made observational drawings of traditional Nordic designs and used ink and polystyrene sheets to turn our own designs into beautiful prints.

Celebrating our Similarities for Unity Theme Week

Year 4 on: Learning in Year 4

This term, we have been discussing what is meant by unity. We started by remembering a time where we felt included and how this made us feel. We then explored why it is better for us and the world to be united. We looked at the artwork 'UK School Report' by a black artist named Tam Joseph. Using this piece as inspiration, we created our self-portraits to reflect our positive qualities. We then put these together to form a class collage. We also celebrated our differences by having a Unity Party in Year 4.
